Chukchansi awards county grants [Sierra Star (Oakhurst, Calif.) :: ]

(Sierra Star (Oakhurst, CA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) April 09--Although it's been about five months since the tribal representatives announced the recipients of the tribe's annual $1 million community grants to 31 county schools and organizations, as of Tuesday April 8, the tribe honored each pre-determined organization selected for this year's grants with some much needed funding.

In a Jan. 9 letter to grant recipients, signed by Nancy Ayala and six other tribal leaders, grant winners were told the tribe has been involved in a legal dispute with some folks who are attempting to undermine the tribe's daily operations.

Despite those internal conflicts the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians Tribal Council, headed by Acting Chairman Tex McDonald, awarded checks to the recipients of the Tribe's Community Grant Program at an event set for the Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino.

?Since the opening of the Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino, our Tribe is proud to have provided millions of dollars in help to deserving organizations all across Madera County,? said Acting Chairman McDonald. ?We know what this year's nearly $1 million in grants will mean to the recipients.
