Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan: Samsung Galaxy S5 Initial Review

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) April 09, 2014 The brand new Samsung Galaxy S5 is now available according to the International Business Times, April 7.

Industry analyst Jeff Kagan is testing a new Samsung Galaxy S5 and offers an initial comment and review. More to come after a more thorough review.

"To start let me say I predict this new Samsung Galaxy S5 will be a big hit in the marketplace. It will most likely be one of the top two best selling devices. The Apple iPhone is the other. That's if there are no other real surprises," says Wireless analyst Jeff Kagan.

"I have been using a new Samsung Galaxy S5 on the AT&T Mobility network and am delighted to see so many new features in a handset that is still comfortable and familiar. If you liked the Galaxy S3 and S4 then you should love the S5. However if you prefer an Apple iPhone device then there is not much that will steer you away," says Tech analyst Kagan.

"The size, shape, thickness and weight of the Galaxy S4 seem basically unchanged. However it feels better in the hand than the S4 which felt too fragile. In fact the S4 was fragile. Once dropped it stopped working. The S5 feels more solid, although I have not dropped it. It also has a rubber like back side so it no longer slides off the table," according to Principal analyst Kagan.

"One great new feature is the Galaxy S5 is waterproof. That's right, if it gets wet, no problem. Within limits of course. This is a feature every single smartphone should have. It also has a fingerprint reader," says Kagan.

If you want a new Galaxy S5, the real question should be which carrier. Which carrier gives you the best connection, signal strength and speed? Typically AT&T and Verizon are top of the list, on a nationwide basis. Sprint and T-Mobile charge less, but don't offer the same network range, quality or speed, yet anyway.

C Spire is a regional player, has a lower price, and an excellent quality network. US Cellular has struggled over the last couple years, but they typically cost less.

"There is a choice of networks, so choose wisely. Remember, the greatest smartphone ever invented is no better than a paperweight if there is no signal," says Kagan.

Size is still bigger than the Apple iPhone. In fact Samsung offers several related devices which are all bigger than the iPhone. While it is easier to read text or watch movies on a larger screen, the larger footprint is also harder to hold in one hand and takes up more room in the pocket.

Sometimes devices are improved and other times they are completely reinvented. This new Samsung Galaxy S5 is improved, not reinvented. It's not a completely new device. However it is improved. It's the same device that has been available over the last few years with the S3 and S4, but it is better. It has several key new features and several other improvements as well.

"Bottom line, this Samsung Galaxy S5 should be a winner in 2014. It will be successful. One of the big two. If you liked the S3 and S4 you should love the S5. However I don't think it will win over Apple iPhone lovers," says Kagan.
