Global Data Center Services Provider CyrusOne Begins Construction on New Data Center in Northern Virginia [Global Data Point]

(Global Data Point Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) "We're very excited to expand our footprint to Northern Virginia in order to meet existing customer demand for space in the region. In addition, this new data center will enable us to more effectively serve our growing customer base on the East Coast. We look forward to providing our enterprise colocation solutions to Fortune 1000 customers in this sizeable market," said Tesh Durvasula, Chief Commercial Officer of CyrusOne.

Durvasula added, "We are also extremely appreciative of the support we received from the County Department of Economic Development. A successful collaboration with the community is essential during the site selection process. The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors was instrumental in facilitating this land acquisition and made us feel like a valued community partner." Northern Virginia is home to one of the world's largest clusters of data center real estate, and an estimated 70 percent of Internet traffic passes through Loudoun County.

"Loudoun has competitive electricity rates, excellent reliability, abundant fiber, and strategic access to the entire East Coast," said the Chairman of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, Scott K. York. "I take great pride in Loudoun's reputation as the most business-friendly data center location in the country, and look forward to working with our industry to continue growing their presence in Data Center Alley." The 14 acres that CyrusOne has purchased is expected to accommodate a shell of approximately 400,000 square feet at full build, with up to 240,000 square feet of raised floor space, 36,000 square feet of Class A office space, and up to 48 megawatts of critical load.

"We are delighted that a global colocation leader such as CyrusOne has chosen Loudoun County and northern Virginia to build their first east coast data center," said Bob Blue, president of Dominion Virginia Power. "This is the culmination of years of concerted and focused effort between Dominion's economic development team and CyrusOne to locate a facility that meets the business needs of CyrusOne, while ensuring that there will be a robust supply of reliable electric power available." CyrusOne plans to use its Massively Modular® design engineering approach to optimize materials sourcing and enable delivery of industry-leading energy optimization and just-in-time data hall inventory to meet customer demand. The first phase of construction includes a 124,000-square-foot shell with 60,000 square feet of raised floor space, 15,000 square feet of office space, and 12 megawatts of critical load. CyrusOne expects the first phase of the new site to be completed in October.
