The Lecture Capture system shall be incorporated into over 200 teaching spaces for scheduled and ad-hoc recordings in teaching spaces and also be available for tutors to use on their desktop, laptop and mobile devices for creating content. The lecture capture system shall capture the Lecturer~s voice, video and any information from the lecture room Podium PC, Lecturer~s laptop, Visualiser or DVD that is being projected during a lecture. It is estimated that we will record over 50,000 hours of scheduled lectures each academic year and these recordings will be viewed for over 250,000 hours by students and staff. We expect pronounced viewing peaks generated during the traditional examination revision periods. The system must integrate with the University timetabling system, Scientia Syllabus Plus to provide automated recording of scheduled lectures using timetable, location and options data. The system must also integrate with the University Virtual Learning Environment, Blackboard to provide the primary point of access to the lecture recordings such that only student enrolled on a course module are allowed access to recordings. The systems must support the implementation of University policies covering the recording of lectures and provide a schedule, record, notify, edit, approve and publish workflow. The content must be able to be viewed on a wide range of popular desktop, tablet and mobile devices and browsers with content delivery optimised to provide the best viewing experience of multi-channel lecture content on desktop, tablet and mobile device screen sizes. Hosted and On-Premise solutions will be considered, however any Hosted proposals must use UK or EU data centres. Solution proposals must be capable of scaling to accommodate data from additional teaching spaces and be able to output content in MP3 and MP4 formats for delivery to other channels such as iTunes U and university websites, via the university Multimedia Management System. Professional services are also required to support the architecture design and implementation, training, support and on-going maintenance of the solution.
