ReadWorks Honored as 2014 Software & Information Industry Association CODiE Awards Finalist

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) New York, NY (PRWEB) April 07, 2014 ReadWorks, the free, proven, research-based Common Core-aligned program, is a finalist in the 2014 Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) CODiE Awards in the Best Reading/English/ELL Instructional Solution category. Established in 1986, the CODiE Awards celebrate outstanding achievement across the software, digital information and education technology industries. This year, nominated ed-tech products underwent an intensive review by educator judges from around the world.

A nonprofit organization, ReadWorks provides online research-based K-8 curriculum and guidance in reading comprehension directly to teachers, for free, to be shared broadly. Its mission is to improve teacher effectiveness in teaching reading comprehension, to increase student achievement and close the achievement gap.

"At ReadWorks, our core focus is to provide teachers with high quality curriculum that will help them raise student achievement in reading comprehension," said David Ciulla, executive director, ReadWorks. "We are honored to have SIIA recognize both the critical importance of having research-based curriculum and instruction in the classroom, and the role ReadWorks plays in making that happen through the power of our online delivery model." ReadWorks is based on the highest quality research in reading comprehension and developed in concert with its team of Academic Advisors, who are among the world's leading researchers and practitioners in research-based reading instruction. ReadWorks currently provides hundreds of reading comprehension lessons and more than 2,000 authentic, leveled informational and literary passages and question sets, all aligned to the Common Core and state standards.

The SIIA CODiE Awards are the industry's only peer-reviewed awards program. Educators and administrators conduct the first-round review of all education nominees. The judges are responsible for selecting the CODiE Awards finalists, and SIIA members then vote on the finalist products. The scores from both rounds are tabulated to select the winners.

The 2014 CODiE Award winners will be announced at the 2014 Ed Tech Industry Summit in San Francisco on May 13.
