SU Provost Elected to National Academic Board
(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SHIPPENSBURG, Pa., April 2 -- Shippensburg University issued the following news release:
Dr. Barbara G. Lyman, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Shippensburg University, was elected to the inaugural board of directors of the Association of Chief Academic Officers (ACAO).
ACAO is the first national organization representing chief academic officers (CAOs) of all accredited higher education institutions. The organization provides a forum within which CAOs can discuss significant academic affairs-related trends and issues. ACAO, which accepted its first members in 2013, has 75 institutions as charter members, including Shippensburg University.
"The launching of the ACAO is extremely timely and important given the current convergence of enormous internal and external pressures on the core academic mission of higher education," according to Lyman. "It is an honor to be entrusted with the responsibility to serve as an inaugural member of the ACAO Board of Directors and to work with fellow members and officers of the board on behalf of all CAOs."
The American Council on Education (ACE), in its role as a convener for higher education associations, assisted in the organization's start-up. The election of the association's first officers and board of directors, and approval of its bylaws was at the ACE Annual Meeting last month in San Diego, Calif..
Lyman has served as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Shippensburg University since 2008. She previously served at the University of West Florida first as associate vice president for academic affairs and then vice provost for academic programs and planning. During her career, she has also been associate and assistant graduate dean as well as department chair. She also taught at Oakland University, University of Louisiana-Lafayette, University of Delaware, and Texas State University-San Marcos. Lyman also was an American Council on Education Fellow at the University of Wyoming.
