App team off to Silicon Valley [Bath Chronicle (England)]

(Bath Chronicle (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) An app to help plan a night out is sending a group of students to Silicon Valley. The team behind the winning app from this year's University of Bath's Apps Crunch competition will be jetting off to San Francisco to meet tech experts.

The winning app, Ambl, links different services, including Yelp, Google Maps and Flixster, to help users create a night out, booking the cinema, theatre or a meal and finding a local taxi firm.

The Ambl team of Ashton Clapp, Tristan Kemp and Ryan Cabot, all computer science students, scored top marks for technical content, business planning, and presentation. They will now head off the States to meet university alumni working for Google, Facebook, Instagram and Eventbrite. The competition was organised by the student union and sponsored by JP Morgan.

Bath graduate David Kelly, co-founder of Storm Consultancy, helped to judge the competition.

"I have been massively impressed by this years' Apps Crunch. I have seen a huge step up from last year's competition, with some fantastic ideas and no lack of ambition demonstrated." (c) 2014 ProQuest Information and Learning Company; All Rights Reserved.
