Samsung bullish on Malaysia prospects [New Straits Time (Malaysia)]

(New Straits Time (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KUALA LUMPUR: SAMSUNG Malaysia Electronics Sdn Bhd sees huge growth opportunities in local telecommunication market's smartphone segment, although the penetration rate of smartphones has nearly touched its saturation point.

Its Information Technology and mobile business vice-president, Ng Long Shyang, said there is potential in converting those who are still using feature phones to smartphones, especially in Sabah and Sarawak.

"There is growth opportunity in the smartphone segment in Malaysia," Ng said after the launch of Samsung Galaxy S5, here, yesterday.

He is confident that Samsung will continue to be a leading smartphone and tablet vendor in Malaysia.

Ng is confident that the Galaxy S5 will receive encouraging response from Malaysians.

The Galaxy S series has been a key driver of Samsung smartphones.

Total unit sales garnered globally from the first S series in 2010 until the Galaxy S4 last year have breached 200 million.

"Malaysia is one of the major contributors in the Asean region to our sales," Ng said.

The S5 combines an advanced camera, fast network connectivity, dedicated fitness tools and enhanced device protection features.

The new smartphone will be available in the market from April 11 at a retail price of RM2,399 and in an array of vivid colours, such as charcoal black, shimmery white, electric blue and copper gold.
