Microsoft changes company policy, vows not to snoop on emails [Asian News International]

(Asian News International Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Washington, March 29 (ANI): Microsoft's general counsel Brad Smith has reportedly announced that the company will induce changes in both company policy and its Web mail terms of service.

The company has vowed not to snoop on user' email even if it suspected them of trafficking in stolen Microsoft property.

The announcement comes in the wake of a recent incident where the software giant reportedly snooped on a Hotmail user's emails to track down a Microsoft employee now accused of corporate espionage, the Cnet reported.

Smith said in a blog post that if the company received information indicating that someone is using its services to traffic in stolen intellectual or physical property from Microsoft, it will not inspect a customer's private content, but will refer the matter to law enforcement if further action is required.
