AVM's FRITZ!Box 7490 network router with media server to be released in Australia next month [ICT Monitor Worldwide](ICT Monitor Worldwide Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) German network equipment marker AVM's new flagship FRITZ!Box 7490 router is set to be launched in the Australian market next month, with specialist broadband equipment supplier PCRange announced as the local distributor. The fibre-ready ADSL2+ router, which includes an integrated phone system, will have an Australian recommended retail price of $429. The device includes four 1 gigabyte LAN ports, two USB 3.0 ports and AC Wireless networking. The German firm's equipment is generally highly regarded, with iiNet-owned telco Internode currently offering the lower-end FRITZ!Box 7272 and 7390 routers to customers, along with FRITZ!Box Stick N networking cards and FRITZ!Fon cordless handsets. In its statement, PCRange highlights some of the key features of the new router. "As well as gigabit Ethernet, the FRITZ!Box 7490 supports the iEEE 802.11ac WLAN standard, capable of 1300 megabits per second (Mb/s) data throughput in the 5GHz band and 450 Mb/s in the 2.4 frequency band. AC Wireless is backward compatible with older 802.11a/b/g/n wireless devices. "The 7490's built-in telephone system contains multiple answering machines, a DECT base station for as many six cordless handsets and connection options for analogue and VoIP [voice over internet protocol] telephone handsets. "The new unit also provides a powerful media server that can stream images, videos and music throughout your home network, whether data is stored locally or in the Cloud."
