Bharat Book Bureau: Singapore: As LTE and Fiber Subscriptions Multiply, Telecom Operators Focus on Data Services

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Product Synopsis The Singaporean telecom market is one of the most mature in the Asia Pacific region, generating an estimated $5.2bn in service revenue in 2013. Pyramid Research expects it to grow faster than the other developed markets in the region, with service revenue expanding at a 5.3% CAGR from 2012 to 2018. This growth will result from the country's appetite for broadband services: we expect operators to expand their 4G offerings and fiber footprints aggressively through 2018, and mobile data will lead in terms of revenue growth, powered by LTE networks already available nationwide.

Introduction and Landscape The Singaporean telecom market is one of the most mature and saturated in the Asia Pacific region, generating an estimated $5.2bn in service revenue in 2013. Pyramid Research expects it to grow faster than the other developed markets in the region over the forecast period, with service revenue expanding at a 5.3% CAGR from 2012 to 2018. This strong growth will result from the country's appetite for broadband services: we expect operators to expand their 4G offerings and fiber footprints aggressively through 2018, fulfilling demand for higher-bandwidth services in a market that boasts one of the highest GDP-per-capita rates in the region. The contribution of mobile services to overall service revenue will continue to grow, reaching more than 70% by 2018. Mobile data will lead in terms of revenue growth, powered by LTE networks already available nationwide. The government-initiated national broadband plan, called the Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network (NGNBN), has promoted further competition in the broadband market, improving service availability and bandwidth levels and driving down fiber access fees. Among the strategic goals of the Ministry of Communications and Information, the telecom regulator in the country, is to improve broadband data speeds to 1Gbps or more by 2015.

The Singaporean operators' focus over the forecast period will be to grow revenue streams from digital services such as mobile payments, OTT apps and M2M as well as enterprise services. Operators also plan to strengthen their service portfolios through strategic acquisitions, and SingTel intends to look to under-penetrated international markets to expand its footprint.
