Nokia introduces Android-based X to UAE users [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)]

(ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Nokia today announced that the Nokia X, the Finnish vendor's Android-based smartphone, has begun selling in the UAE.

"The new device is the perfect introduction to the world of Android apps, coupled with signature Nokia experiences, and the most popular Microsoft services," the company said in a statement.

The Nokia X uses a tile-based user interface based Nokia's Lumia device range. It comes with Fastlane, a screen that lets users switch between apps. Users can also download apps from Nokia Store, more than a dozen third-party app stores and by sideloading. All devices are also pre-loaded with a variety of third-party apps and games.

Nokia also announced operator billing payment options for Etisalat and du customers in UAE. Users will have the option to purchase all the latest applications, games and content from the Nokia store and pay directly with their mobile account. The purchased applications can either be charged as part of the customer's monthly bill for post-paid accounts, or against their pre-paid credit balance.

"We believe this unique combination will resonate with consumers around the world and set a great precedent for the level of quality that can be achieved in the fast-growing, affordable smartphone segment." said Vithesh Reddy, general manager of Nokia Lower Gulf.

Preloaded features on the Nokia X include HERE Maps and Nokia MixRadio music streaming and downloadable playlists. Also included is access to Microsoft cloud storage using OneDrive.
