Huawei Backs Away from Dual-Boot Smartphones [ICT Monitor Worldwide]

(ICT Monitor Worldwide Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Huawei has backtracked on previously announced plans to develop a dual boot smartphone that could support both Android and Windows Phone.

The company only recently said that it planned to announce such a device for the US market to go on sale in the second quarter of this year.

Now, a company spokesperson has told FierceWireless that "at this stage there are no plans to launch a dual-OS smartphone in the near future." The spokesperson did confirm that Huawei will offer stand-alone Windows Phone based devices in addition to it long standing Android models, but users hoping for the ability to switch between the two operating systems will have to look elsewhere.

There have been suggestions that both Google and Microsoft both oppose the use of dual-boot smartphones, and Asus recently dropped plans for a dual-OS tablet, reportedly following pressure from Google.
