California Jury Rules in Favor of Riddell

ROSEMONT, Ill. --(Business Wire)--

Riddell, the leader in football helmet technology and innovation, announced today that a jury in the Superior Court of California in the County of Los Angeles unanimously ruled in favor of Riddell in a case which challenged the protective qualities of Riddell's football helmets.

Specifically, in less than 30 minutes a jury of nine men and three women determined the Riddell Revolution (News - Alert) helmet was not defective in any way. The suit alleged that the brain injuries suffered by a high school football player on October 16, 2009 were the result of a helmet defct.

"First and foremost, we are sensitive to the unfortunate situation involving this young athlete and the injury that he suffered. We offer our best wishes to him and his family," said Brian Roche, the company's general counsel. "However, we are pleased that the jury determined that the Riddell helmet was neither defective nor the cause of this athlete's injury. The jury also recognized Riddell's dedication to designing and manufacturing the most innovative and protective football helmets in the market."

Roche continued, "Riddell will continue to vigorously defend our products when presented with baseless allegations created by plaintiffs' attorneys and the misleading opinions offered by their experts."
