Australia : HONEYWELL gets AUSTRALIAN shipping industry using INTERMEC by HONEYWELL scanners [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Honeywell has got the Australian shipping sector using Intermec by the company scanners for tracking containers in real time and decreasing errors in data capture.

Shipping firms are able to scan and automatically read shipping container codes and numbers from a distance of nearly five metres.

With help from its Melbourne research and development team, Honeywell has customized its strong mobile computers for the shipping sector by adding 2D imaging capabilities offered by the EX25 scan engine to the CK71, and by coupling the SR61EX long range scanner with a CV61 fixed vehicle mount computer (also providing imaging for a consolidated container optical character recognition (OCR) solution).

Country manager for Honeywell Scanning & Mobility, ANZ, Tony Repaci, said : 'Shipping companies manage thousands of containers every week and it is mandatory that they track the location of each and every container. A common practice each evening following the closure of the port is for the company to send out walkers throughout its yard to manually record on paper each container s number and location.' He added : 'Locally, we have adapted our software imaging solution to be able to successfully capture the horizontal identification codes and numbers found on containers and digitally convert them using a Honeywell rugged vehicle-mounted computer a first in the shipping industry. This expansion of our technology solutions into the shipping industry demonstrates Intermec's commitment to introducing and adapting our products in order to improve workflow processes throughout all facets of the supply chain.'
