France-Based Veolia Environnement Selects Violin Flash Arrays to Accelerate Its Billing ProcessSANTA CLARA, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Violin Memory®, Inc., a leading provider of flash storage arrays and appliances delivering application solutions for the enterprise, today announced that global environmental services company, Veolia Environnement, selected Violin flash array solutions to provide management with near real-time access to business critical data and help the company meet its service level agreements (SLAs). Reports that once required a full day using traditional disk drive-based storage arrays, now take only a few hours to complete. With the Violin all flash array solution the Veolia Environnement billing process is run four times faster. France-based Veolia Environnement supplies fresh water, recycles waste water, collects, treats and recycles domestic and commercial waste, and supplies heated and cooled air. To meet its SLAs, Veolia relies on its ability to store, share and access the latest data, such as the weight of all the waste collected in a specific location on a particular day, to monitor daily revenue and provide better, more targeted customer service. Before switching to Violin all flash array solutions, Veolia relied on a legacy system that struggled to meet SLAs for its very input/output (I/O) intensive billing application. The high latency of the traditional disk drive-based storage array was a bottleneck that forced Veolia management to wait days to receive revenue figures. The problem became more critical as Veolia made plans to move 70 of the company's databases and its IT infrastructure based in 70 different locations throughout France to one single server. Following the installation of the Violin flash arrays, the streamlined server supports more than 5,000 employees. The arrays are also set to handle data from 38 databases through its DIVA database, and Veolia plans to add an additional 100 SQL database applications by the end of 2014. Prior to implementation, early testing conducted by Veolia showed that Violin all flash arrays dramatically reduced batch processing time during work hours giving management the ability to view critical data first thing the next morning. Veolia also cut the company's heaviest query processing time, such as trend and charge back reports for billing, and their related costs from days to hours. Before selecting Violin all flash array solutions, Veolia looked at the solid state disk-based solutions (cards and SSD drives) from two other major storage vendors. Both fell short of the performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of Violin solutions. In fact, the Violin all flash arrays sped up both sequential and random read/write processing by as much as 4 times over the other flash products that were tested.
