BRIEF: Pay for parking with a smartphone? St. Louis testing apps [St. Louis Post-Dispatch :: ]

(St. Louis Post-Dispatch (MO) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) March 17--ST. LOUIS -- The city has begun testing smartphone applications that allow motorists to pay to park without carrying around change.

The apps are in operation at test locations downtown and in the Central West End.

Parkmobile is available for use at Euclid and Laclede avenues in the Central West End, as well as 10th Street downtown.

Passport Parking is now operational at Euclid and Maryland Avenue locations in the Central West End, and Broadway and Pine Street downtown.

The apps, which are available for iPhone and Android, allow people to pay to park through their cellphones, rather than slipping coins into a meter.
