New BTI 7802 Series Converged Networking Solution Delivers Industry-Leading 10/100G Density in Smallest Form Factor for Metro Transport

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) LAS VEGAS, NV -- (Marketwired) -- 03/17/14 -- COMPTEL PLUS SPRING 2014 CONVENTION & EXPO -- BTI Systems, the software and networking leader empowering content and service providers to capitalize on trends in cloud services, mobility and Internet video, today announced a new converged networking platform for metro and regional networks that gives service providers high-capacity wavelength services in a compact two-slot design. Unveiled today at COMPTEL PLUS, the BTI 7802 provides comprehensive investment protection, including upgrade options for MPLS Label Switch Routing (LSR), Software-Defined Networking (SDN) control and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV).

Concurrent with the announcement, BTI Vice President of Business Development Jim Hintze will participate in a conference panel discussion -- 100G: Impact and Transformation on Networks -- this morning at 9:15 a.m. PT. He will join executives from Fujitsu Network Communications, Lumos Networks and Network Utility Force.

Available immediately, the BTI 7802 enables service providers to quickly and efficiently deploy high-capacity 10/100G in their metro networks with a scalable, carrier-grade solution featuring built-in redundancy options for power, processors and service modules. A switching fabric enables connectivity between any port on any module to further increase service availability. Supporting 48 ports of 10G in a compact 3RU design today, the platform delivers substantial savings in power, cost and space requirements. Additionally, with integrated AC or DC power options, the system can be housed in any environment.

"Our new two-slot solution was purpose-built to offer service providers 10G, 40G and 100G wavelength services in a small, cost-effective and yet scalable package," said Hintze. "The converged platform also helps service providers future proof their networks with roadmap support for higher-speed interfaces, comprehensive packet functions, as well as NFV and SDN capabilities for simplifying operations." The newest member of BTI's 7800 Series portfolio, the 7802 shares common modules and software with the BTI 7814, offering service providers the ability to select the best platform for their service needs. Leveraging BTI's 100G Coherent interface options, combined with BTI's Dynamic Optical Layer, service providers can increase network capacity, gain 10X spectral efficiency, and reduce space, power and cooling costs -- all while simplifying and accelerating deployment of high-margin services. Additionally, the 7802 capitalizes on BTI's easy to use, high-performance BTI proNX Management and Control Software that includes open APIs and web services interfaces for easy integration into existing back-office systems.

The BTI 7802 provides unprecedented investment protection. The platform supports a scalable second slot for 10/100G interfaces, and will accommodate new 400G and higher speeds in the future. It is software configurable for MPLS Label Switch Routing to enable the intelligence to route traffic and bypass expensive routers. Additionally, the platform will support a compute module and open OS for executing virtualized network functions in an SDN/NFV environment for operational savings and service monetization.
