Security breach in district court, thieves decamp with LCD [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]
(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) "Unidentified persons broke into CBI prosecution office on district court premises and decamped with a 26-inch LCD television on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
The incident exposes the security parameters in the district court complex and how easily it can be breached. The matter here is not just restricted to theft of an LCD television; but vulnerability of the tonnes of files and papers related to lakhs of cases stacked up in the courts on which thousands of lives are dependent.
One of the prosecutors in the court said, "The thieves knew that there was an LCD hanging here, and must have planned their way to here from the sales tax office in Commissionerate complex." There must be at least two of them, he added.
The stolen LCD television is used in video-conferencing of famous cases such as Abdul Karim Telgi's stamp paper scam. A few weeks ago, a bike was stolen from the complex and before that, printers went missing in the complex.
The thieves made their way into the gap between CBI office and sales tax building, removed mesh and broke the window, which can be easily broken with a single forceful kick and entered into the office. The prosecutor said, "They must be some addicts wanting to sell some electronics so that they can buy a bottle of liquor. If a person with other intentions entered the building, he could destroy or steal any document he desired." Once destroyed, there is no way, the documents can be retrieved, he added.
Court manager Sankalp Maheswari said, "There are 15 cameras installed in the whole of court complex, but they monitor only front side of the courts."
Sources say, there are a few watchmen who keep vigil in the nights, but most of them are drunk while on duty.
