Gov. Perry Appoints Seven to Texas Medical Board District Review Committees


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) AUSTIN, Texas, March 13 -- Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, announced the following appointment: Gov. Rick Perry has appointed seven members to the Texas Medical Board District Review Committees for terms to expire Jan. 15, 2020. Committee members evaluate medical practice and professional competency, and make recommendations on investigations conducted by the board.



District One Review Committee Michael Cokinos of Houston is president and CEO of Cokinos Energy. He is a licensed real estate broker, board director of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and the Legacy Fund Houston, and a member of the Houstonian Club and Petroleum Club of Houston. He is also a member and past chairman of the Texas A&M University (TAMU) at Galveston Board of Visitors, former mayor pro tem and city councilman of Hunter's Creek Village, and past chairman and police commissioner of the Memorial Village Police Department. Cokinos received a bachelor's degree from TAMU.

District Two Review Committee Todd Pollock of Dallas is a surgeon and owner of North Dallas Plastic Surgery. He is president of the Dallas County Medical Society, a member and parliamentarian of the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons, and a member and past president of the Dallas Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association and American societies of Plastic Surgeons and Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. He is also a board member of Dallas Medical Resources and the Southwestern Medical Foundation, and a volunteer clinical faculty member of the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Medical Center plastic surgery department. Pollock received bachelor's degrees from the University of Texas and Southern Methodist University, and a medical degree from the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. He completed his general surgery residency at UTSW Medical Center and plastic surgery residency at the University of Chicago Medical Center.


Catherine "Trinka" Taylor of Dallas is owner of Taylor Enterprises. She is a board member of the Southwestern Medical Foundation and World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth, executive committee member of the Southern Methodist University Meadows Museum of Art, and director of Texas Gulf Bancshares Inc. She is also a member of the Dallas Woman's Club and Founders Garden Club and past trustee of The Hillander School and St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire. Taylor received a bachelor's degree from Cornell University.

District Three Review Committee Penny Angelo of Midland is a community volunteer. She is a past member of the Texas State boards of Medical Examiners and Examiners of Psychologists. She is also chair of Midland Neighbors Against Burglary and Drugs, a sustaining member of the Junior League of Midland, and a member of the St. Ann's Catholic Church Choir, University of Texas (UT) Permian Basin Music Advisory Council and Palmer Drug Abuse Coalition of Midland. Angelo received a bachelor's degree from UT. She is reappointed to the committee.

John McKinley of Amarillo is a surgeon at Baptist St. Anthony's Health System. He is a member of the American, Texas and Potter-Randall County Medical associations and Texas and J. Bradley Aust Surgical societies. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. McKinley received a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas (UT) and a medical degree from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and completed his general surgery residency at the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. He is reappointed to the committee.

District Four Review Committee Robert Hootkins of Austin is president and CEO of ESRD Consulting and former section chief of the Austin Diagnostic Clinic Nephrology and Hypertension Division. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American Heart Association and American Society of Nephrology. He is a member of the American and Texas Medical associations, American societies of Apheresis, Artificial Internal Organs, Hypertension, Internal Medicine and Nephrology, Renal Physicians Association, and Texas Society of Hypertension. He is also a member of the Travis County Medical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Biophysical Society, International Society of Nephrology and New York Academy of Sciences, and past chair of the Texas Department of State Health Services Kidney Advisory Committee. Hootkins received a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas (UT), a master's degree and Doctorate of Biophysics from the University of California at Berkley, and a medical degree from the UT Southwestern Medical School, and completed his nephrology fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. He is reappointed to the committee.

Phil Worley of Hebbronville is a former dean of arts and humanities at Laredo Community College. He is a board member of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy, a past member of the Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation and past president of the Bruni Lions Club. Worley received a bachelor's degree from Texas State University and a master's degree in sociology and political science from Laredo State University, now Texas A&M International University. He is reappointed to the committee.
