BRIEF: Animal Service Center of the Mesilla Valley takes a bite out of euthanasia rates [Las Cruces Sun-News, N.M. :: ]

(Las Cruces Sun-News (NM) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) March 13--Dr. Beth Vesco-Mock, director of the Animal Service Center of the Mesilla Valley, will be giving her annual report Thursday to the center's board of directors at City Hall, where she is expected to report the shelter no longer needs to euthanize for space reasons.

"In the past six years, things have progressed fabulously," she said. Vesco-Mock said the shelter's euthanasia rates have dropped from about 75 percent to less than 45 percent, a testament to adoption outreach efforts as well as spay and neuter campaigns.

Still hundreds of animals are awaiting a loving home.
