TCF Calls for Improvement of Mobile Phone Services

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) AS Tanzania joins other countries to mark the World Consumer Rights Day this Saturday, the Tanzania Consumer Forum (TCF) has called upon mobile phone network providers to grab opportunities from technological advancement to improve services.

The TCF Chairman, Prof Jamidu Katima, said in a press statement on Tuesday that the companies should ponder on how they have been providing their customers with services in the country.

"Apart from communication, mobile phones are being used to get different information, thanks to internet services, travel bookings, money transfers and paying of school fees," he said.

Prof Katima pointed out that mobile phone use was inevitable thus cellular network companies should use advancement in Information and Communication Technology to ensure consumer rights are protected.

He noted that consumers were experiencing a number of challenges and that sometimes consumers experience poor communication due to network failure yet they are charged.

"I call upon all mobile phone users to join hands to protest against those mobile companies which bombard their consumers with charged messages without permission of their consumers," he said.

Prof Katima said it was high time consumers demand their rights on safety of their information and that they could resist being bombarded with text messages on advertisements.

The World Consumer Rights Day is an annual occasion for celebration and solidarity within the international consumer movement held on March 15, every year.

The day is an opportunity to promote the basic rights of all consumers for demanding that those rights are respected and protected and for protesting the market abuses and social injustices which undermine them.
