SoftBank Inc. Appoints Bruce Gottlieb Executive Vice President, Legal and Regulatory AffairsWASHINGTON --(Business Wire)-- SoftBank Corp. (TSE:9984) ("SoftBank") announced today that Bruce Gottlieb will join SoftBank Inc, its U.S. subsidiary, as Executive Vice President for Legal and Regulatory Affairs. Mr. Gottlieb will be based in Washington, D.C. and report to Ron Fisher, president of SoftBank Holdings Inc. "We are extremely excited to have a talented leader with Bruce's deep experience and understanding of U.S. communications policy join the SoftBank team," said Mr. Fisher. "Last year, we made the largest ever foreign investment by a Japanese company in the United States and we expect Bruce will play a key role in helping us manage the investments we have made in the U.S. mobile internet industry." Mr. Gottlieb has extensive business management, legal and technology expertise and has worked in the private sector, for regulatory agencies and at private law firms. He joins SoftBank from the National Journal, where he has served as President since 2012 and General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy for parent company, Atlantic Media, since 2010. p> Previously, Mr. Gottlieb served as Chief Counsel of the Federal Communications Commission and worked on the Obama-Biden Presidential Transition Team in 2008, as part of the group responsible for Technology, Innovation and Government Reform. Earlier in his career, he was legal advisor to FCC Commissioner Michael J. Copps (News - Alert) from 2006-2008. His private practice experience includes time with Washington, D.C. law firms WilmerHale and Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis, where he appeared before the Supreme Court, federal appellate courts and regulatory agencies. Mr. Gottlieb began his legal career as a clerk for Judge David S. Tatel of the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Before law school, he was a staff writer at Slate, where he originated the Explainer column, and he wrote for The Atlantic, The New Republic, and the New York Times Magazine.Mr. Gottlieb received an A.B. in Economics, magna cum laude, from Harvard College and a J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School.
