BitPay Opens Latin America Headquarters in Argentina [Professional Services Close - Up]


(Professional Services Close - Up Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BitPay, a provider of business solutions for the Bitcoin digital currency, opens their Latin American Headquarters in Argentina.

According to a release, the company currently employs five software engineers in Argentina and one business development manager. BitPay's office in Buenos Aires is located at the Bitcoin Embassy Buenos Aires with the Fundacion Bitcoin Argentina and several other local Bitcoin companies.



The company reported that Alberto Liver Vega is BitPay's Regional Manager in Latin America for Business Development. Vega has a strong background in technology and international relation. He has been working during the past 15 years on business and higher education agreements with organizations and companies such as SAP, Microsoft, Cisco, Sun, Micros-Fidelio, and several NGOs and governments.

"As a technology enthusiast, I see Bitcoin as a big opportunity for companies to gain a competitive advantage," says Vega. "BitPay is the perfect match and the natural platform for businesses to be able to use bitcoin easily and risk free in a voluntarily, open source and decentralized way." Additionally, Matias Alejo Garcia is a Nuclear Engineer. In 2008 he founded Cinefis.com, a global movie recommendation site, which received investment from Atomico Ventures among other local VCs. In 2012 Cinefis made a joint venture with Netmovies BR, and Garcia became Netmovies' CTO. Garcia leads the BitPay Argentina developer team.


Also on the team is Manuel Araoz, a software engineer from Buenos Aires. He created proofofexistence.com in 2013, which allows one to certify a document's existence via the Bitcoin blockchain.

Juan Ignacio Sosa Lopez has a degree in graphic design from the Universidad del Norte Santo Tomas de Aquino and has worked on projects for National Geographic.

Mario Colque has been working on web and software development for 10 years, and has spent the last six years working on the open- source Tuquito GNU/Linux Distribution.

Gustavo Maximiliano Cortez earned his degree in computer engineering in 2008 from Universidad Nacional de Tucuman. Afterwards, he worked in web development for two years and helped bootstrap the local Linux User Group in Tucuman.

BitPay is a Payment Service Provider (PSP) specializing in eCommerce, B2B, and enterprise solutions for Bitcoin digital currency.
