Teledyne Paradise Datacom's Q-Flex™ satcom modem demonstrated its unique value proposition again recently when it passed 91.8 Mb/x of TCP accelerated IP in a performance test against the incumbent modem currently used by a major Atlanta teleport. Unlike industry alternatives, Q-Flex™ provides IF and L-band operation in a single unit without the need for any additional hardware. As part of a "technology re-fresh" at the teleport, the competitive performance measurements were taken using both iPERF and WAN-Killer testing progams for an IF-up / L-band down operation.

The Q-Flex modems, priced at less than half the cost of the incumbent modems, were configured with DVB-S2, 16APSK, 5/6 FEC and Teledyne Paradise Datacom's proprietary XStream IP™ feature set which includes embedded TCP link acceleration and custom PXE encapsulation. The modems generated a pair of 96 Mb/s carriers that were placed on 36 MHz transponders.

"It was great to have an opportunity to demonstrate that our Q-Flex modem could pass over 90 Mb/s of accelerated TCP traffic over satellite without the need for any external hardware," said Tony Radford, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Each carrier was placed within the confines of a 36 MHz transponder, but truth be told, if additional features of our modem were employed, we could place both carriers in a single transponder for an additional 50% savings.
