Atos announces plans to recruit up to 30 apprentices [Herald, The (Scotland)]

(Herald, The (Scotland) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ATOS, the controversial IT and business process outsourcing specialist, has announced plans to recruit up to 30 apprentices in Scotland in roles including cyber security.

The company is looking to take on 11 apprentices at its Livingston base, three in Glasgow and 16 at its new development and innovation centre in Forres.

The places in Scotland are among 85 Atos is planning to offer on its apprentice scheme across the UK.

The firm said it had trained more than 130 apprentices since the scheme was launched in 2010, stating "most" had gone on to secure permanent roles within the company.

Gavin Thomson, senior vice president for Atos in Scotland, said the opportunities highlighted its commitment to Scotland. He said: "Given our key role with the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, where we are providing essential games management systems and games information systems, and the positive impact already being made by the new centre in Forres, we are entering a key period for the company in Scotland." Atos has come under fire for its handling of "fitness for work" tests on disability benefits claimants.
