Lake Forest Graduate School of Management President to Retire in June


LAKE FOREST, Ill. --(Business Wire)--

Lake Forest Graduate School of Management announced today that the School's President and CEO, John Popoli, has decided to retire at the end of the 2013-14 Academic year - effective June 30, 2014. Mr. Popoli's retirement will bring a close to a remarkable career of nearly 20 years of continuous service to the Graduate School, its students, faculty, alumni, and staff.

"Under his leadership and in collaboration with his colleagues and the Board of Directors, John made significant contributions to the Graduate School," said Board Chairman, Dave McDonough. "His broad and deep experience in strategy and business operations coupled with his people and communication skills, were hallmarks of his distinguished tenure."

The timing will allow for an effective search for and a transition to a replacement to lead the School.

The LFGSM Board of Directors has retained a search firm with an established practice filling senior level positions in higher education and non-profit organizations. The Search Committee will work to review and recommend candidate(s) to the Board in time for the selected candidate to begin on July 1, 2014.

John joined LFGSM as Vice President and Academic Dean in 1994 and was named Executive Vie President and Dean, Degree Programs in 1999.



In these roles, he developed the Leadership Learning™ value proposition and educational philosophy, enhanced faculty relationships, benchmarked the entire graduate business curriculum, and created strategies and programs that continue to drive the growth of LFGSM today.

John was appointed the fourth president of Lake Forest Graduate School of Management in June 2001. Under his leadership and in collaboration with his colleagues and the Board of Directors, John made significant contributions to the Graduate School:


  • Created an award-winning workplace recognized by Crain's Best Places to Work and Companies That Care.
  • Constructed a new $10 million, 40,000 square foot Lake Forest campus and headquarters in 2004. Launched a new 14,000 square foot state-of-the-art Schaumburg facility in 2010.
  • Expanded LFGSM's regional and global reach through online delivery capability.
  • Expanded MBA specializations including Healthcare, Organizational Behavior, Marketing, Finance, and Global Business.
  • Set the vision of LFGSM as the business school that delivers business impact.
