SunGard and Girl Develop It to Recognize International Women's Day

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) New York - To celebrate the 103rd International Women's Day and this year's theme Inspire Change, SunGard will host the screening of the documentary Girl Rising in several of its office locations including New York, Chicago, Birmingham, and Tunis. The film, which was released last year, follows girls in nine developing countries and highlights how education changed their lives and those of the people around them. One of the primary sponsors of the film is Intel, a world leader in computing innovation.

The screenings in New York and Chicago will be accompanied by a presentation from Girl Develop It, an international organization that provides affordable and accessible programs to women who want to learn software development through mentorship and hands-on instruction. As a financial technology company, SunGard supports organizations like Girl Develop It, which play an important role in furthering the education in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

"It is critically important to seize any opportunity to encourage and empower girls and women. The ability to be innovative and competitive in both the technology and financial services industries hinges on our ability to hire, retain and develop a diverse talent pool," said Marianne Brown, who recently joined SunGard as chief operating officer and has over 30 years of experience in the financial and technology industries. "As a Senior Advisor to Pro Mujer, an international women's development and microfinance organization, I have witnessed the inspiring impact that education and empowerment of women can have on their families and society." The screening in New York will take place March 6 at SunGard's office, and will be followed by a series of internal events aimed at raising awareness and enlisting employees in the company's Women's Initiative Network. The screenings in Chicago, Birmingham and Tunis will take place throughout the month of March.
