BRIEF: Stephens hired as Tri-Rail's new executive director [Sun Sentinel :: ](South Florida Sun Sentinel (FL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) March 01--Tri-Rail chose a new leader Friday from within its ranks. Jack Stephens was named executive director after serving as Tri-Rail's deputy executive director since May 2003 and interim director last month. He replaces Joseph Giulietti, who left in January to become president of Metro-North commuter railroad in New York City. The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority awarded Stephens a one-year contract with an annual salary of $239,000. "The organization and staff need the stability provided by a leader they have been working with for more than a decade as we face the myriad challenges ahead of us. The right candidate was already in-house and well-known to us," said Palm Beach County Commissioner Steven Abrams, who chairs the transportation board.
