Council of Anti-Phishing Japan Joins the STOP. THINK. CONNECT. Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --(Business Wire)--
To raise cybersecurity and cybercrime awareness in Japan during
Information Security Awareness Month and beyond, the Council of
Anti-Phishing Japan joined the STOP. THINK. CONNECT. Messaging
Convention to bring the STOP. THINK. CONNECT. cybersecurity campaign to
Japan as a permanent public awareness resource promoted jointly by
government and industry.
The organization will work to promote cybersecurity awareness at the
individual user level in Japan -- and to promote the use of the
Messaging Convention's STOP. THINK. CONNECT. slogan and associated logo
as well as its cybersecurity messaging assets suite.
The campaign has been adopted by dozens of multinational corporations,
NGOs and, to date, four national government ministries in addition to
Japan. Those are: the United States' Department of Homeland Security;
Public Safety Canada of Canada; Panama's La Autoridad Nacional para la
Innovación Gubernamental; and Paraguay's Secretaría Nacional de
Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación.
Messaging Convention co-founder APWG Secretary General Peter Cassidy
said, "The agreement with the council brings the campaign, at last, to
Asia and unites us all in our efforts to make cyberspace a safe,
governable dimension for the cultivation of our shared culture and
Kentaro Yamamoto of the Council of Anti-Phishing Japan (JPCERT/CC) said,
"The Council of Anti-Phishing Japan would like to support campaigns
which share the same objective to save consumers from malicious onlin
activities (such as APWG). CAP believes that the message of STOP. THINK.
CONNECT. is simple and clear enough to be understood by general public
including children. In February 2014, as 'Information Security Awareness
Month', we work intensively on awareness-raising towards 'Information
Security' by offering seminars and conferences to public."
Michael Kaiser, executive director of the National Cyber Security
Alliance, co-founder of that helped found the STOP. THINK. CONNECT
campaign, said, "Global adoption of the message is accelerating
representing a continued validation of the STOP. THINK. CONNECT. message
as online safety message for citizens worldwide.
The convention's logo and slogan and advisory suite were established by
a number of US-based industrial powerhouses, collaborating with the APWG
and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCSA) in an unprecedented
effort in 2009 to unify online safety messaging. To date, more than 100
commercial enterprises and NGOs have adopted the campaign worldwide.
The Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Council of Anti-Phishing
Japan for promotion of the STOP. THINK. CONNECT. campaign is the first
that the messaging convention has entered into with a national
government agency from Asia.
