RI gov reappoints 3 to economic development board

(Associated Press Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee has reappointed three people serving on the board of the state's Commerce Corp., the agency previously known as the Economic Development Corp.

Elizabeth Francis, Oscar Hebert and Karl Wadensten will serve on the board until 2018 if the reappointments are confirmed by the state Senate.

Lawmakers renamed the EDC following criticism of its failed $75 million investment in former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's now-bankrupt video game company, 38 Studios.

Hebert is the CEO of Atrion Networking Corp. of Warwick. Francis is director of the state's Council for the Humanities. They were appointed last year to fill unexpired terms on the board.

Wadensten is a small businessman first appointed in 2010. He was the only board member that opposed the 38 Studios loan guarantee.
