CCC Offering Free Workplace Basic Skills Courses for N.J. Employees

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CAMDEN, N.J., Feb. 25 -- Camden County issued the following news: For the seventh straight year, Camden County College is offering free basic skills training to state businesses and their employees.

"Camden County College is giving employers and employees the economic development tools they need to succeed in this competitive business environment," said Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to Camden County College. "These essential courses can be offered at Camden County College's three locations, or the instructors can come to your worksite." Courses are available thanks to Basic Skills Workforce Training Program funding from the State of New Jersey. The program was developed by the New Jersey Community College Consortium for Workforce and Economic Development in partnership with the New Jersey Business & Industry Association and the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

Classes are delivered by New Jersey community colleges at no cost to employers. Since the inception of the program in 2007, approximately 5,350 classes have been delivered. More than 4,130 companies have been served, and over 57,000 employees have been trained.

This annual training program offers basic skills instruction in several subjects. These include Microsoft Office (Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), written and verbal communications including presentation skills, customer service, English as second language, workplace Spanish and mathematics/measurement.

"Ensuring Camden County residents have the skills employers need is vital to our economic health," Leonard said. "These classes build a stronger workforce for the county and the region." Employers interested in providing this training to their employees have the option of reserving dedicated classes, which would be held at their worksites or at a Camden County College location. Scheduling is flexible and can be tailored to an employer's specific needs if there are a minimum of 10 participants. The College also offers monthly open-enrollment classes at the William G. Rohrer Center in Cherry Hill for individual employees to attend.
