ReachLocal Releases LigerMobile, an Open Source Framework for Development of Cross-Platform Mobile Applications

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

ReachLocal, Inc. (NASDAQ:RLOC), a leader in powering local online marketing for small-to-medium sized businesses (SMBs), today announced the availability of LigerMobile, an open source framework that sets a new standard for application development of cross-platform hybrid mobile applications - programs that can run on both Android (News - Alert) and iOS platforms.

ReachLocal initially developed LigerMobile as a means to power its ReachEdge mobile application for Android and iOS. The company is now releasing and distributig the framework as open source code, inviting the development community to create other hybrid cross-platform apps. LigerMobile raises the bar for the user interface experience in hybrid applications by performing page-to-page transitions as native animations, an approach that enhances responsiveness and provides a native application look and feel.

"Our ability to develop code that delivers the best user experience possible for our ReachEdge Android and iOS mobile users is evidence of ReachLocal's technical leadership," said Kris Barton, chief product officer at ReachLocal. "We want to share that code with the development community to inspire them to create their own cross-platform applications and help us improve the code."

ReachLocal's LigerMobile framework enables rapid development of cross-platform mobile applications by sharing business logic across Android and iOS native applications with all the benefits of appearance, device accessibility, and navigation elements. LigerMobile further differentiates itself by reducing the time to market by focusing on an interoperable codebase.

"LigerMobile is a novel approach to building hybrid mobile apps, and it lowers the barriers of entry for web developers to produce and release high quality products, regardless of operating system," said Michael Lee, head of engineering at ReachLocal. "While it significantly increases the feel of HTML5/JS code in the mobile application landscape, LigerMobile also allows developers to include native screens in applications."

ReachLocal will discuss LigerMobile, its development and potential uses in the SXSW (News - Alert) workshop, "Speaking of Mobile, Go JS, Go Native, or Both." For more information about the workshop, visit http://schedule.sxsw.com/2014/events/event_IAP25092.
