Mformation Achieves Unprecedented Performance on Oracle Engineered Systems

EDISON, N.J. --(Business Wire)--

Mformation® Software Technologies LLC, a leading global provider of solutions for managing wirelessly connected devices, today announced the results of performance benchmark testing of Mformation Service Manager with Oracle (News - Alert) Engineered Systems, specifically the Oracle Exadata Database Machine. In addition, Mformation has achieved Oracle Exadata Optimized status through Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN), demonstrating that Mformation (News - Alert) Service Manager has been tested and tuned on the Oracle Exadata Database Machine to deliver speed, scalability and reliability to customers. Mformation is a Gold level member of Oracle PartnerNetwork.

Testing of Mformation Service Manager showed 15x performance improvement, including more than 8 million firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) transactions/day of files as large as 1GB1. The benchmarks demonstrated an unprecedented level of scalability and performance, which is key to managing the Internet of Things (IoT) on the projected billions of wirelessly connected devices and machines being deployed in machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions in different vertical markets. The increasing value of the Internet of Things (IoT) processes, as well as volume of data, means that storing, managing, securing and analyzing data from connected devices is becoming mission critical within organizations.

"The Mformation platform was designed from the ground up for multi-tenancy and carrier-grade scalability, anticipating the need for extremely high transaction throughput as well as high-bandwidth updates of very large packets to endpoint devices," said Dr. Rakesh Kushwaha, Mformation's CTO. "It is clear from these benchmarks that Oracle Exadata Database Machine will enable the Mformation platform to scale to meet the current and future device management needs of the largest tier-1 global carriers. With the "Internet of Things" (IoT) driving M2M deployments on connected devices in a wide range of industries - from telematics systems to utility grids, medical equipment and industrial machines - carriers will require platforms like ours that have been tested and proven to be able to manage billions of wirelessly connected devices of all types."

Performance testing simulated a system with over 100 million connected devices on a single instance of the Mformation platform, running on a half-rack of an Oracle Exadata Database Machine. A variety of different interactions with the devices caused varying loads on the system, including high numbers of firmware/software updates of large files up to 1GB, as well as device diagnostics, configuration and customer-care-originated device management transactions.

Transaction rates and response times for these benchmarks showed:

  • Firmware/software update (FOTA) transactions at >8 million transactions per day
  • FOTA processing of very large files (update packages ranging in size from 500MB to 1GB)
  • Push ntifications at >3 million transactions per day
  • Customer care-originated changes at >1.5 million transactions per day
  • Phone (News - Alert) number/device pair change transactions at >5 million per day
  • Device attribute update transactions at >1 million per day

"Oracle Exastack Optimized recognizes partners who have optimized their solutions on a complete, integrated and cloud-ready infrastructure in order to help them accelerate innovation, unlock new features and functionality, and deliver superior value to users," said David Hicks, Worldwide ISV, OEM and Java Business Development, Oracle. "By achieving Oracle Exadata Optimized status, Mformation has demonstrated its Mformation Service Manager is tested and tuned to work with Oracle Exadata Database Machine to help deliver optimum performance, scalability, and reliability to their customers."

Oracle Exadata Optimized is part of the Oracle Exastack Optimized program which allows partners, such as Mformation, to leverage OPN enablement resources and dedicated lab environments to help develop, test and tune their applications on Oracle Exadata Database Machine, Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud, Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine and Oracle SuperCluster engineered systems. The Oracle Exadata Database Machine delivers extreme performance and is the ideal database platform for OLTP applications, data warehouses as well as the varied and unpredictable workloads of cloud computing. It is a complete package of servers, storage, networking, and software that is massively scalable, secure and redundant.
