Lookout app helps with lost phone [Newcastle Journal (England)]

(Newcastle Journal (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A MOBILE app is helping to solve a suspected theft - after it snapped a picture of a man trying to use a stolen phone.

Duncan Paylor lost his silver HTC One smartphone at a service station in Wetherby, Yorkshire.

The 33-year-old, of Crawcrook, Gateshead, thought he had no hope of finding it again.

But, within an hour, his phone sent him a photo of a man trying to unlock the device. He had downloaded an antitheft app called Lookout, with a feature that uses a phone's frontfacing camera to take an image of anyone who tries to break into it.

The application then sends an email to the owner with the picture and the GPS location of the smartphone.

These were forwarded on to North Yorkshire police, who are now investigating the alleged theft.

Mr Paylor, a CCTV installer for North Shieldsbased 2020 Vision, also put the photo on Facebook, and it has since been shared more than 170,500 times. Anyone with information should call 101.
