SPIRIT DSP Releases H.264/VP8 Transcoding Server

MOSCOW --(Business Wire)--

SPIRIT DSP, the world's No. 1 voice and video over IP engines provider serving more than one billion users in over 100 countries, announced today the launch of TeamSpirit®┬áTranscoding Server, its new VVoIP software product.

This useful software product offers cost-effective interoperability between different real-time voice and video communication tools and services. It was designed by SPIRIT specially for service providers, telcos, unified communications and video conferencing providers.

In the lack of commonly accepted HD voice and video standard on the Internet today, TeamSpirit Transcoding Server enables cost-effective interoperability that makes possible HD voice and video calls to/from different soft- and hardware video conferencing products, which are based on popular codecs using inexpensive commodity PC servers.

It also delivers high-performance transcoding to multiple bitrates for adaptive streaming. Video transcoding for H.263, H.264, H.265 and VP8 is provided, as well as the voice transcoding for SPIRIT IP-MR™ (IETF RFC 6262), G.711, G.722, G.723.1, G.726, G.729AB, G.722.1, GSM AMR-NB, GSM AMR-WB, iLBC, SILK.

TeamSpirit┬áTranscoding boasts high scalability with up to 400 concurrent voice calls (sessions, each occupis two server ports) and up to 50 VGA concurrent video calls on a standard PC server (Intel (News - Alert), 3.1GHz). It also decreases patent royalties for software end-points. With the help of TeamSpirit Transcoding, telcos and service providers avoid most of standard codec patent payments for (millions of) end-points and pay for standard codec patents only for (thousands of) server channels. SPIRIT product also reduces the server hardware infrastructure costs tenfold in comparison with traditional conferencing systems.

"Google pushes hard for its VP8/VP9 video codec, while Microsoft, Apple and Cisco (News - Alert), together with all the telcos, widely use the H.264 standard, so there is no seamless video interoperability on the net today," SPIRIT DSP Chairman Andrew Sviridenko said. "Our useful product helps to solve this problem, as TeamSpirit Transcoding Server software delivers cost-effective and seamless interoperability between multiple popular video and voice platforms on the net today".

SPIRIT DSP is the world's No. 1 voice and video over IP (VVoIP) engines provider. SPIRIT's innovative carrier-grade voice and video software platform is used by carriers, OEMs and software developers, web services and social networks, serving more VoIP users than Skype (News - Alert). SPIRIT DSP's software platforms serve more than one billion users in over 100 countries. Today, over 250 global technology leaders have licensed and/or are delivering products based on SPIRIT DSP's software products, including Apple, Adobe, ARM, AT&T, Avaya (News - Alert), Blizzard, BroadSoft, BT, China Mobile, Dialogic, Ericsson, HP, HTC, Huawei, Korea Telecom, Kyocera, LG U+, Microsoft, NEC, Oracle, Polycom, Reliance, Samsung, Skype, Texas Instruments, Toshiba (News - Alert), Viber and ZTE, amongst others. SPIRIT's direct OEM customers jointly exceed 60% of the global smartphone market share. SPIRIT DSP's mainstream product today is multi-point web videoconferencing software VideoMost SDK targeting enterprise customers in partnership with telcos as SAAS service. SPIRIT DSP offers its multipoint videoconferencing software products to carriers and system integrators around the world, who are deploying high-demand cloud videoconferencing and mobile video calling services under their own brands. Videoconferencing services, which are based on SPIRIT DSP's software, help operators gain extra revenues and effectively compete against Microsoft Lync, Google Hangouts and Cisco Webex's in enterprises.
