Collymore Gifts His Sax to Korogocho Boy(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) At the official launch of this weekend's Safaricom International Jazz Festival, the CEO of the telecommunications company gifted his saxophone to a music student from Korogocho. Bob Collymore said his love for jazz goes a long way, but since he no longer plays his saxophone, "I dug deep into my cupboard to get the saxophone that I haven't used for years to give it to a child who needs it." The saxophone was given to 15-year-old Wycliffe Andambi, who is a student of music in the Ghetto Classics, a project that uses music education to instill life skills in young lives in Korogocho slums. Wycliffe told Word Is, "Music has changed my life, in the slum children roam around when they have nothing to do but I find that playing music keeps me busy. I play the clarinet, flute and violin but what I love playing the most is the drums. It was the first instrument I learned to play." So what song would he love to play on the saxophone he got from the Safaricom CEO? "Usually we use books to learn how to play the instruments but if I was to hear a song I like, I would play it by ear on the saxophone," Wycliffe said. "However, my favourite music is RnB and I love Whitney Houston's songs." The Safaricom International Jazz Festival set for Sunday at Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi will be headlined by guitarist and singer Richard Bona. He will be joined on stage by Kavutha Mwanzia, Jacob Asiyo, Aaron Rimbui, Chris Bitok, Eddie Grey, The Nile Project, Rhythm Junks (Belgium) and Yuval Cohen (Israel).
