NEC Delivers Best Java Virtual Machine Performance for 4-socket Servers

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Irving, Texas -- -- NEC Corporation of America (NEC), a leading provider and integrator of advanced IT and communications solutions, managed services and biometrics solutions, today announced with NEC Corporation in Japan that the Express5800/A2040b (A2040b) enterprise server with Intel(R) Xeon(R) processor E7-4890 v2 achieved the world record performance among 4-socket servers on the SPECJbb2013-MultiJVM benchmark powered by Oracle JDK 8.

SPECjbb2013 is SPEC's current benchmark for evaluating the performance and scalability of environments running Java business applications, with a usage model based on a worldwide supermarket company with an IT infrastructure that handles a mix of POS requests, online purchases and data-mining operations.

The result consists of two metrics: the full capacity throughput (max-jOPS), which is a pure throughput metric, and the critical throughput (critical-jOPS), which is throughput under service level agreements (SLAs) specifying response times ranging from 10ms to 500ms.

The NEC Express5800/A2040b server breaks previous records in both pure throughput and response-time-aware throughput metrics.

The pure throughput of 177,753 SPECjbb2013-MultiJVM max-jOPS for the 4-socket Intel Xeon processor E7- v2-based server outperforms the previous record held by an 8-socket Xeon server by a factor of 1.67. For the response-time-aware throughput, the measured 65,529 SPECjbb2013-MultiJVM critical-jOPS outperforms the previous record held by a two-socket Xeon server by a factor of 2.04. These scores also outperform the records held by a RISC server with the same number of CPU sockets by factors of 2.11 for MultiJVM max-jOPS and 1.29 in critical max-jOPS.

Notes: 1. 177,753 SPECjbb2013-MultiJVM max-jOPS, 65,529 SPECjbb2013-MultiJVM critical-jOPS on NEC Express5800/A2040b server with 4 Intel Xeon processors E7-4890 v2 and 1024GB main memory, running Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.4 and Oracle Java Platform Standard Edition 8 HotSpot 64-bit Server VM 1.8.0 are independently published by NEC on Feb 18, 2014. NEC has submitted the result to SPEC.
