AIA's Western Region Vice President Marjorie Berte to Retire

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON, Feb. 18 -- The American Insurance Association issued the following news release: Leigh Ann Pusey, president and CEO of the American Insurance Association (AIA), announced today that Marjorie Berte plans to retire on March 31. Ms. Berte joined AIA in January 2011 as vice president for state affairs, Western region, and has been responsible for overseeing AIA's government affairs efforts in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

"I want to thank Marjorie for her past three years of service to AIA and our member companies," said Pusey. "Marjorie's knowledge and commitment have been invaluable to the industry as we have faced several significant legislative and regulatory challenges in the Western region." Prior to joining AIA, Ms. Berte was undersecretary for the Business, Transportation & Housing Agency in the administration of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA) overseeing 14 departments and five programs, including financial regulatory entities. Her public service also includes appointments by Governor Pete Wilson (R-CA), first as deputy secretary for the State & Consumer Services Agency, as the governor's advisor on insurance, and then as director of the Department of Consumer Affairs. She has served as vice president of the California State Automobile Association, deputy campaign director for the "No on Prop 103" Campaign and executive vice president of the Professional Insurance Agents of California and Nevada.

"It's hard to imagine that someone with such an illustrious career and a hard charging attitude will be able to disconnect from the workplace but Marjorie assures me that she intends to fully enjoy her long-planned retirement," said Pusey.

"When I joined AIA, I knew that it would be the capstone to my career and I have enjoyed my tenure with the organization," Berte said. "But now I'm looking forward to the next chapter which includes more family time and plenty of golf and fishing." Joe DiGiovanni, AIA's senior vice president for state affairs, will oversee the Western region in coordination with Sacramento-based Steve Suchil, AIA's assistant vice president for state affairs, until Ms. Berte's successor is named.
