Ericsson and Kodiak introduce 4G-compatible cloud-based push-to-talk (PTT) service in Europe; Ericsson and Kodiak have joined forces to launch PTT as a cloud service in Europe, following the success of the service in the US in 2012

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Following the successful launch of their cloud-based push-to-talk (PTT) service in the US last year, Kodiak Networks and Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) are pleased to announce that the convenience of sub-second, 4G-compatible PTT is now available in Europe.

Together, Kodiak Networks and Ericsson have built a PTT platform that mobile network operators (MNOs) and mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) can use to offer PTT services to their enterprise and corporate customers.

Because this is a cloud service, operators will always be able to offer their customers the latest version of the PTT service -- without the need for costly network infrastructure modifications. This means that PTT is a future-proof solution that can be continually managed and updated in the cloud. Ericsson hosts the technology platform provided by Kodiak Networks in Ericsson's European data center and operates it 24x7 via the Global Service Center in Romania.

In particular, organizations with mobile workforces -- in sectors such as construction, hospitality, security, oil & gas, utilities, manufacturing, field services, education and transportation -- can benefit from the speed, cost-effectiveness and convenience of this PTT service.

This is a next-generation, instant calling solution with advanced features, centralized online address book management, and security -- all delivered over 4G LTE, 3G WCDMA/HSPA and Wi-Fi networks. With PTT, users can carry a single device to conveniently access instant voice service, broadband data, worker protection, workforce management and mobile productivity applications. Our PTT service uses patented voice-transmission technology that leads the industry in call set-up and voice quality.

Bruce Lawler, Co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer, Kodiak Networks, says: "With our service, users can communicate with a large audience at the touch of a button using whichever networks are available -- including 4G LTE, 3G WCDMA/HSPA and Wi-Fi networks. Ericsson is the right partner to help us bring the enhanced features and benefits of PTT to Europe." Luigi Migliaccio, Global Head of IT Managed Services at Ericsson, says: "This service has proved popular with operators and their customers in the US, and we are sure it will enjoy the same success in Europe. It's the only carrier-grade PTT service that supports 4G networks, such a wide range of handsets and even PCs -- all while offering great voice quality. Because it is based on a cloud service model, leveraging Ericsson's data centers and managed services capabilities, it is easy to adopt this PTT service and immediately offer it to enterprises." The latest version of our PTT service offers features such as voice and signaling encryption, real-time presence, talker priority, a web-based Corporate Administration Tool (CAT), integrated Dispatch console and the ability to augment or replace Private Mobile Radio (PMR).

During Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona, Spain, Ericsson is showing world-leading technology and service capabilities and innovations. We believe that anything that benefits from a connection will be connected, and we lead the way with solutions that drive the development in mobility, broadband and the cloud, creating the foundation for eco-systems and transformation across industries.
