Teen Gets 10 Years IHL for Breaking and Theft(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Kasungu First Grade Magistrate has sentenced John Chama to 10 years Imprisonment with Hard labour (IHL) for house breaking and theft. Chama, 18, on 11 February, 2014 at around 10 O'clock in the morning broke into the house of Caroline Mgogo Kaipa at Mtondo Agricultural Development Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) and stole one 80kg bag of shelled groundnuts, a Digital Camera and a Cell phone. According Kasungu Police Publicist Sub Inspector Edwin Kaunda at around 5.00 pm the suspect went to the house again to get other items. "When he went to the house for the second time managed to steal a hand bag which had K145,000," said Kaunda. Kaunda said all this was happening at a time when the owner of the house was at her workplace. When she came home she discovered that the house had been broken into and she reported the matter to Kasungu Police who arrested Chama the same day at one of the drinking joints called American Filling Station Bar within Kasungu Township. Chama appeared before Kasungu First Grade Magistrate Court on the 12th of February, where he pleaded guilty to the charges of housebreaking and theft. At the court Chama asked the court to be lenient but His Worship Magistrate Hens Kantchere said that he could not exercise lenience on him as such cases are common in the District. Kantchere also said looking at the fact that Chama went to steal at Kaipa's house twice shows that he is a dangerous criminal who deserves no lenience. He proceeded in sentencing Chama to 10 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour. Chama hails from Mtondo Village in Traditional Authority Kaomba in Kasungu. Copyright Malawi News Agency.
