VIDEO: Dubai firm's app unravels 'girl talk' to help men understand partners [Seven Days (United Arab Emirates)]

(Seven Days (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A Dubai-based firm is attempting to save men from the doghouse by using a smartphone app to translate female-talk into English.

Baffled boys can type in what a girl says and the Love Translator will convert the phrase to show what she really means.

The iPhone app has been downloaded 5,000 times over the past week since it went live, and is even among the top downloads in Belgium and the top 50 in the French store.

Fadi Mroue, owner of creative agency Republique, who built the app for his client Beirut jewellery brand Mukhi Sister, told 7DAYS he hopes breaking the universal language barrier will rescue relationships around the world.

Speaking from his own experience, he said: "Trust me, I have gone wrong so many times. For example, on Valentine's Day, I'd bring flowers and she'd say 'Oh thanks, they're really beautiful' and then she wouldn't talk to me for a month." The app builds on stories from similar silent-treatment sufferers. A female-only committee consults on phrases and compiles interpretations. "We have a group of six women whom we brainstorm with to make it as accurate as possible," Mroue revealed, adding that the most annoyingly precise translation has been 'I'm not upset'.

"When someone tells me they're not upset, I think they're not upset. But that's definitely not what it means," he said.

The app offers 2,000 different translations from women-speak and is growing every day.

"It's a user-generated app. Now it's up to users to keep building on it. In the past six days we've received about 3,000 suggestions from men and women," Mroue explained, adding: "We can't even keep up with them because we're getting so many. We have to get each one approved by our female team of course." The app includes branded content as a safety measure.

"We thought we'd create this app for a jewellery brand because if you reach a point where you just can't break the language barrier, then there's jewellery," Mroue said.

He noted that a lot of women have been sending links to the app to men on social media saying: 'Men, you have no more excuses. Now you can't tell me you don't understand me.' Mroue has also received dozens of requests for Love Translator to be made available in different languages.

"This is a universal issue, so there seems to be a need for a universal solution… We're working on it," Mroue promised.

WHAT?SHE?MEANS… >> "I'm not upset" = "Of course I'm upset." >> "I'll be ready in a minute" = "Kick off your shoes and find a good game on TV." >> "You're so adorable" = "You've been friend-zoned." >> "I'm bored" = "I want us to do something fun." >> "I don't like jewellery" = "I'm picky about jewellery."
