Mysore students land jobs with salary of Rs 16L/yr [Mysore] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MYSORE: Two engineering students from Mysore bagged some of the highest-paid jobs so far through campus selection. Shivani Pai Kasturi and Balaji Prasad Dubey of the Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering beat over 120 competitors to get jobs in LinkedIn, the social networking site for working professionals. They cleared four rounds of selection with the highest marks and are expected to join the company in the US around July this year. To start with, the eighth-semester students will earn a salary of Rs 16 lakh per annum.

A student from the National Institute of Engineering got a job in US-based Cisco Systems Inc Ltd and has been offered Rs 10.33 lakh per annum. Last year, an SJCE student got job in an MNC for a salary package of Rs 13 lakh, believed to be highest so far.

Shivani, whose father is a businessman and mother a homemaker, said, "It's a dream come true. The first thing I did was to inform my parents and they're excited too. Since childhood, I've been interested in computer science. As many students had come for the first round of interviews, I wasn't confident of getting selected." Balaji said, "I'm very excited and never expected the American company to select me and offer the highest salary. Though I've attended other interviews, this was different as we had to execute by coding on the laptop. My mother is a homemaker and I have two elder brothers. The company has given me an opportunity to realize my potential." SJCE principal Syed Shakeeb-Ur-Rahman said, "While we're proud of our students, other colleges too are happy as engineering students here have been offered such high salaries for the first time. It's a good beginning and we want to build on it. While we train the students in the placement cell, a lot depends on their performance." (c) 2014 Bennett, Coleman & Company Limited
