Radisys Introduces Multicore DSP Card for MPX-12000, Delivering the Industry's Highest Capacity VoLTE and Mobile Video Media Processing Platform

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 14 February 2014 Release date- 13022014 - HILLSBORO, OR, U.S. - Radisys Corporation (NASDAQ: RSYS), a market leader enabling wireless infrastructure solutions, today announced the new high-capacity MPH6 media processing card for its MPX-12000 Broadband Media Resource Function (MRF).

The MPH6 extends the market-leading MRF capabilities and is specifically designed to support the processing requirements for large deployments of real-time telecommunication services, including Voice over LTE (VoLTE), high definition (HD) video conferencing, and high capacity multimedia transcoding services.

'The growth of VoLTE and real-time interactive video deployments, with requirements to interconnect different endpoints and codecs, will drive demand for IP media processing in the core of modern IP communication services,' said Diane Myers, principal analyst, VoIP, UC and IMS, Infonetics Research. 'This trend will drive investments in IMS architecture with broadband multi-service media processing flexibility. The MPH6 is a great addition to the MPX-12000 to provide more processing power.' MPH6 - Overcomes VoLTE Transcoding Challenges More than 250 mobile operators around the world have deployed LTE networks commercially and many are actively in the process of rolling out commercial VoLTE services and trials. Infonetics Research has projected rapid growth in VoLTE subscribers over the next three years with more than 138 million VoLTE subscribers by 2016, up from 8 million at the end of 2013.

VoLTE enabled mobile phones and tablets that use HD audio (AMR-Wideband) codecs will require connectivity with GSM, CDMA or PSTN endpoints that use legacy codecs including AMR Narrowband (AMR-NB), EVRC or G.711. Therefore, as mobile operators transition subscribers to VoLTE, the underlying IMS services infrastructure will need scalable, economical and high capacity transcoding capabilities to interconnect new VoLTE devices to legacy handsets and subscribers.

'Radisys is a leading provider of media processing platforms and is deployed today in VoLTE networks and trials around the globe,' said Grant Henderson, vice president of marketing and product management, Radisys. 'Our flagship MPX-12000 combined with the MPH6 delivers the highest capacity IP media processing platform on the market for communication equipment providers and operators, not only for multimedia transcoding, but for a broad range of IMS and web communication services.' MPH6 - Delivers Industry-Leading Scalability, Reliability and Price / Performance While HD audio and HD video codecs are delivering an improved user experience with reduced bandwidth utilization, the processing of these media streams requires significantly higher computational capability within the media processing elements of the IMS network. The new MPH6 card, based on the latest multicore Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology, delivers industry-leading DSP power for processor intensive media stream manipulation. The result is industry-leading capacities in a small footprint, with a compelling price per port enabling IMS developers, mobile operators and Over-The-Top (OTT) communication service providers to deliver large scale, economical real-time HD communication services utilizing a broad range of HD audio and video codecs including H.264, VP8, and AMR-WB. In addition, the MPH6 fully leverages the MPX-12000 fault-resilient architecture to deliver unmatched service reliability, including preserving active sessions for call continuity, customer satisfaction and revenue assurance.
