Nokia to fork out an Android phone [T-break Tech (Middle East)]

(T-break Tech (Middle East) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Nokia plans to release an Android-powered smartphone soon, according to sources close to the matter.  The phone is expected to be named 'Nokia X', and will feature a customized UI that will resemble Windows Phone 8 than an Android device. Apparently, Nokia plans to shave off all Google services and apps, including the Play Store, and instead replace them with ports of Windows Phone 8 apps. However, the device will be able to run Android apps normally.

It seems highly unlikely that the Android fork will debut as a high-end device, and seems more like a measure to bolster sales in emerging markets, whose returns could be fed into the development of the high-end Lumia phones. The device will reportedly feature 4GB of storage and 512MB of RAM.

Nokia is expected to unveil the device at the Mobile World Congress on Feburary 24th.
