Djibouti Data Center (DDC) Launches Internet Exchange Point in East Africa

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Djibouti City, Djibouti (PRWEB) February 10, 2014 The Djibouti Data Center (DDC) has announced today that it has launched a new Internet Exchange point at its data center facility in Djibouti. The new IXP will allow existing customers, carriers, ISPs, and others to keep local traffic in East Africa local by reducing the need to exchange traffic at other peering points outside of the region. The results will be reduced latency, faster connectivity, and lower costs for network operators and Internet users in East Africa.

“Today’s announcement is the culmination of rapidly escalating demand and months of consultation with the DDC’s existing customer base and other regional and international service providers,” says Anthony Voscarides, CEO of the Djibouti Data Center. “Africa has historically been challenged by high Internet costs. We are leveraging the DDC’s ecosystem to improve local Internet performance, efficiency, resilience, and cost by keeping local traffic local. The results are all around improvements for service providers and end users in the region.” The Djibouti Data Center is strategically positioned in East Africa with access to eight international and regional fiber optic cable systems. The new DDC IXP now compliments the DDC’s full portfolio of services including cable head access, hosting, colocation, and Vpop services by combining state-of-the-art network infrastructure that connects East Africa with Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific regions. The DDC IX is available for all port speeds up to 10Gbs using Juniper Technology.
