BRIEF: Sierra Providence East Medical Center expands emergency department [El Paso Times, Texas :: ]

(El Paso Times (TX) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 08--Sierra Providence Medical Center East on Wednesday had a ribbon-cutting welcoming its newly expanded emergency department.

"It's like a party on the backside of the hospital," Sally Deitch, the medical center's CEO, said.

Deitch called the Sierra Providence employees "the cornerstone" of the hospital and lauded their efforts to bring something different and unique to the area.

"Far East El Paso deserves something better and something different," Deitch added.

The new 35,000 square-foot emergency department will offer additional treatment space to accommodate the growing East Side, a news release stated.

The hospital expansion increases the number of treatment rooms from 20 to 38 when the new expanded area opens on March 1.

City officials and members of the medical center attended the ribbon cutting ceremony at 3280 Joe Battle.

"Today is about sharing a great example of Sierra Providence Health Network's corporate responsibility to the citizens of El Paso," said Cindy Ramos-Davidson, CEO of the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
