Bank of Canada names Line Rivard as a special adviser to the governor

(Canadian Press DataFile Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) OTTAWA _ The Bank of Canada named Line Rivard, a former managing director at BMO Capital Markets, as special adviser to the governor on Tuesday.

The central bank says she will advise the governing council on a range of financial system issues.

The Bank of Canada uses special advisers to help bring in outside perspectives to the central bank.

Rivard will lead an examination of the role of the financial system in supporting the building of new economic capacity.

She also serves as a member of the board at Ivanhoe Cambridge, the real estate arm of the Caisse de depot, and grocery retailer Metro Inc. (TSX:MRU).

Rivard joins Lynn Patterson as a second special adviser at the central bank.

Patterson, the former president and country head for Bank of America Merrill Lynch Canada, started a two-year term as a special adviser last year.

Previous special advisers have been banking executives and academics including Jean Boivin, who later joined the central bank as a deputy governor before moving to the federal Finance Department to become an associate deputy minister.
