Openwave Messaging Launches RazorGate® 5 Providing Enhanced Messaging Security for Service Providers and Enterprises

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Openwave Messaging Inc., the leading global provider of innovative messaging software solutions, announced today RazorGate® 5, a next generation security offering that provides world-class messaging security and protection from spam, viruses, malware and other attacks. With RazorGate® 5, Openwave (News - Alert) Messaging's security solution addresses both the Service Provider and Enterprise markets by delivering a complete set of security features and the flexibility of a cloud offering, an on-premise software solution, or an appliance that can install in front of and protect any email solution.

Designed from the outset to protect users and organizations from the threat of Internet-based messaging attacks, RazorGate® 5 combines edge-security techniques and the industry's lowest total-cost-of-ownership (TCO) with traffic management, anti-virus, anti-spam and anti-malware technologies.

RazorGate® 5 introduces two powerful features; the new Policy Engine and the new Unified Management Console (UMC). The Policy Engine allows administrators to define policies that determine how messages are handled, and how mail flows are created and managed. Scripting techniques take into consideration message characteristics, such as mssage origin, timestamp and content to dynamically check messages and discard those determined to contain spam and harmful content. The UMC helps administrators create the environment they need to closely monitor their networks and deliver maximum protection for their user population and network infrastructure.

Security dangers are still very real challenges for messaging providers. Messaging security solutions that address and protect a provider's messaging systems and network infrastructure are essential. Gartner states that despite the market maturity, companies can't do without SEG (Secure Email Gateway (News - Alert)) solutions. Global spam volumes declined again slightly in 2012 as spammers moved to other mediums, such as social networks, but spam still represents as much as 69% of email. Phishing and malware attachments also declined slightly in 2012; however, there is ample evidence that email is the preferred channel to launch advanced targeted attacks. (Gartner's (News - Alert) "Magic Quadrant for Secure Email Gateways," published in July 2013 and written by Peter Firstbrook and Brian Lowans.)

"Our priority is to develop software that allows our customers to focus on their business and not worry about the security of their messaging environment and network infrastructure," said Dave Ratner, president and CEO, Openwave Messaging. "Messaging security continues to be a big concern. We want to help our customers reduce their overall business risk. RazorGate® 5 delivers a security solution that eliminates more than 99% of messaging-based security threats."

Available February 2014, RazorGate® 5 is offered as a cloud offering, an on-premise software solution, or an appliance that can sit in front of and protect any email solution.
