The Comox Valley Airport Commission welcomes two new board members


(Canada Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) VANCOUVER ISLAND, Feb. 3, 2014 /CNW/ - The Comox Valley Airport Commission (CVAC) is pleased to confirm the appointment of Andy Frost and Joe Schommer to its Board of Directors.

"It is our pleasure to welcome two talented individuals to the CVAC board of directors," said Board Chair Frank van Gisbergen.  "Andy and Joe bring valuable experience in the areas of marketing and planning, two key fields that will broaden and strengthen the overall skill set of the board.



Andy Frost has been a resident of the Comox Valley for the past decade following a 32 year career with IBM. He has a proven track record of successfully managing complex projects, teams and budgets in a senior leadership role.  While his corporate business background in sales and marketing will benefit the board, Andy also has intimate knowledge of the travel industry, having travelled extensively for both business and pleasure.

"During the course of my travels I have used the services of over 80 airports in four continents around the world.  These have included some of the world's largest and busiest facilities as well as a number of small regional airports," Andy acknowledged.  "The Comox Valley Airport is one of the nicest regional facilities I have had the pleasure of utilizing and I look forward to working with my fellow board members and the airport's management team to contribute to the continued success of YQQ." Joe Schommer is a new resident of the Comox Valley having moved here in 2012 from Saskatchewan.  He was trained as a City Planner and had a lengthy career that included serving as Director of Planning and Sustainability with the City of Regina.


"The airport and the services it offers were critical to my decision to move to the Comox Valley," explained Joe.  "I believe air service is an essential part of our transportation system and is absolutely crucial to sustaining our local economy.  I look forward to working with the board to help ensure the future of air service for the benefit of our community." Andy is a local governments nominee filling the vacancy left by Scott Torry.  He will serve a term of two years and attended his first board meeting on January 22.  Joe is also a local governments nominee and fills the vacancy left by Daryl McLoughlin.  He will serve a three year term and will attend his first board meeting this month.

The Comox Valley Airport Commission is the governing authority for the operation of the Comox Valley Airport. The nine-member Commission is broadly representative of the Comox Valley community and its members are nominated by the City of Courtenay, the Town of Comox, the Village of Cumberland, the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), the Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Comox Valley Economic Development Society (CVEDS).

CVAC is a federally incorporated, non-profit entity. It was established through letters patent in 1996.
